ARTIST INFORMATION

Elisabeth Bond (UEL)

I spent the earlier part of my working life in theatre, writing for the Royal Court Theatre Upstairs, Traverse Theatre Edinburgh, Riverside Studios, amongst others. I also wrote plays for BBC Radio 4, BBC TV and a feature film THE ASSAM GARDEN that came out in 1985 and starred Deborah Kerr and Madhur Jaffrey.

I have been painting for the last 7 years and am currently in my final year of an MA in Fine Art at the University of East London (UEL).

I have lived in Italy on and off for the last 25 years and much of my inspiration comes from there – a mountainous area in the Lucca province known as the Garfagnana. I go round the mountain roads on my scooter and get to know the structure and texture of the landscape. At the other extreme I have always loved estuaries, marshes and mud flats. Years ago I spent a lot of time on the Lune estuary near Lancaster and recently I have been getting to know the flat, bleak docklands landscape leading towards the Thames estuary.

Wherever I am, I draw and paint on the spot in my sketchbook and then use these images in the studio as the basis of my work.

More recently I have become very interested in print making, particularly etching, lino and wood cuts. I enjoy mark making and symbols and also the technical process involved in producing a print.
