The focus of my ideas comes from my surroundings. I use photography to capture moments in time, by using nature, architecture and everyday happenings to inspire me. I use the information from my photography to develop ideas through the use of computer manipulation, changing the original images’ size, colour and abstracting the image by using techniques which will enhance the end result, making the image bold and graphic.
Using my background in textile design, I develop a series of ideas where I experiment with materials. In this process, I use techniques such as hand sewing, machine embroidery, bonding, heating, dyeing, painting, etc. Working in this way means that my work has a spontaneous approach as the materials, techniques and brief dictate the end result.
My work is applied in two ways; I do projects where I specialise in providing manufacturers and wholesalers with textile design concepts. These concepts are then incorporated into their own brand ranges for fashion, trend and interiors. The designs can then be used and integrated into company’s philosophy, allowing for a unique progression in product ranges.
The other way I work is by making my work into art, specialising in providing interior designers and architects with textile art wall hangings, digital prints and soft furnishings for site-specific projects such as hotels, restaurants, bars, corporate receptions and residential properties, private and corporate interiors.
