Artist Statement

Mark’s work is about capturing light and atmosphere in everyday subjects. Working in the medium of watercolour he likes to experiment with various techniques to achieve a richness of strength in colour and texture with an eye for detail. The immediate response to the surrounding environment is his inspiration for his paintings. Whether locally or abroad, the bias is often towards man-made structures against the natural landscape. Light plays an important part in his work - transforming everyday subjects into more evocative and powerful images.
