Like memories, my paintings present traces from the past constantly overwritten by new inscriptions. Just as traces-do, journeys all exist within the present, excavated from actions past, suggesting both absence and presence that thread through a colour-field of paint. These marks and forms are events I view as journeys, random excursions decisions and hesitations, all defined as pathways released through the subconscious.
For me the image I created by various lines, colours and textures is not a representation of something objective, it is a device to release aspects of the subconscious to challenge mine and the viewer's perception of reality. I am interested in the idea that my paintings are unveiled slowly, not to give everything of themselves at once.
Just like water or light, the painting appears to be in a state of constant flux. There are events that appear, or readings that emerge that are not available on a first look. My aim is to create an impression that through time, the painting releases itself slowly to the viewer. The encapsulation of the fugitive element of colour and how the eye and mind perceive the work in time is my central preoccupation.
My paintings are like screens onto which one can project one's own reading, finding one’s own way through the maze of colour inter-reaction. The whole notion is that they can exist like a mirage, enigmatic in character. I want their resolution to exist in the viewer’s mind's eye, more in terms of bringing their own thoughts and reflections, in recognition that the journey offered in the work is a multi -dimensional affair. I hope my work transcends the accepted conventions of vision whist stirring the imagination and evoking one's experience of differing space and time.
