Jaime Patel
My name is Jaime Patel and I am an optometrist by profession. Art is more of a hobby at the moment but who knows what the future holds.
I started painting when a close friend of mine wanted some contemporary art to hang in his flat but found what he liked a bit out of his budget. So I decided I'd try and paint something for him in the colours and style he wanted. The resulting canvas was far better than I could have hoped and my friend says he loves the piece especially since he knows me, he says it makes it more personal. From here I explored my skills further by painting gifts for friends and family and received lots of positive responses. I painted pieces for rooms I knew needed some wall hangings and knowing the people's homes and tastes I could create canvases to suit.
I also found the hobby extremely relaxing and pleasurable. My local gym Amida held an auction of promises for charity and I painted a piece and donated it to the Gym. I was elated when the canvas raised a considerable sum for the charity. It was a lovely feeling knowing I had done something to help and at the same time someone felt my creation was good enough to hang in their home. Since then I have mainly done commissions and Amida has commissioned me to do pieces for their spa rooms and I have to date done 9 pieces for them.
I have just completed a commission for a lawyer in the Notting Hill area, having worked closely with the client to design a piece for her bedroom that matches her decor exactly. My work is very Contemporary and in addition to using an array of colours I use various textures.
I am also experimenting with some other ideas at the moment to give my work more of a unique edge. So watch this space!!
