ARTIST INFORMATION

Olivia O`Hare

My Great Uncle was a painter and I saw him work as a child, this is my first memory of the smell of Oil Paint which I love to this day. He, Reginald Turvey inspired me to paint, while painters like Manet, Bacon and Doig give the incentive to keep painting.

I studied at The University of KwaZulu Natal, Goldsmiths, London and St. Martin's College, London.

I have only recently started exhibiting again:

Rivington Gallery November 2007, previously in South Africa, Japan and a private show in Pimlico.

I work out of a studio run by a working artist Michael Major, who brings together like minded painters. In this enviroment one has the opportunity to bounce ideas of other artists and the space to work. I tend to call my works what they are rather than imagine a title.

My work is informed by the study of art theory but I persue the pure aim of wanting to apply paint to the canvas in an abstract form and be able to illicit a powerful response; as if through the very act of painting there is creation, more than just another art work.
