ARTIST INFORMATION

Louis Atallah

My work draws its inspiration from nature, its seasons, colours, moods and variations. I am interested in the relationship between humans and their surrounding, and the effect of our own feelings on the way we perceive nature and landscapes. The paintings are a celebration of a few moments that seem to fly away so fast, where we look at a natural scene and perceive it differently.

I am currently a Research Associate at Imperial College, London, working on the use of wearable and ambient sensors for gait and behaviour analysis. As a scientist, I look at ways of looking at people’s behaviour through sensors, and I try to answer some interesting questions: How do we learn? How do we react to certain stimuli? And how do we adapt?

I was born in Brummana, Lebanon and the Lebanese countryside is one of my main influences. Growing up in the civil war as a child, I used painting and poetry to paint myself a better world that knows no bombs, no death and no sadness. Thus, I think my paintings show a celebration of life and a refusal to let sadness creep to our lives.
