
Timothy B Layden's work investigates various aspects of the human perspective on life, exploring diverse perspectives and states within the shared spectrum of human experience. He investigates the construction of reality through the senses and the emotional development of human observation, interaction and understanding, conceptualising this through abstraction, symbolism and myth.
Originally from Seattle (USA), Timothy B Layden has been a artist, student, designer, teacher and an activist in The USA, Mexico , Italy , Japan , Spain and The UK. He studied a BA in Fine Arts at the University of The Americas in Mexico, where he co-formed his first collective, EXPOSICION, with an international group of young painters and taught art at a local secondary school involving youth in cooperative art projects. From 1995 to 97 , he produced mixed media art work and ran workshops from his live-in studio in Seattle. In 1997, he worked with marginalized youth, graffiti artists and fine artists to develop a series of Murals for the Sodo urban arts corridor. In '98 and '99 he lived in Japan , where he formed part of the visual art collective Club Ikebukero. From 1998 to 2000 he travelled from Japan to Mexico and back to the US searching for a base while continuing to produce work and exhibit. Finally, in 2000 he arrived in Spain where he began his studies at the University of Barcelona focusing his research on interdisciplinary studies in between the arts and relating these to history, philosophy and science, finally writing his doctoral thesis on the influence of music and synestheasia on contemporary painting. At the same time he developed a series of exhibitions of mixe3d media visual art while working with a street theatre group doing performances in public spaces in Madrid. Since receiving his PhD in Fine Art from the University of Barcelona in 2005 he has come to settled in London where he lives with his wife produces artwork and has collaborated on a number of creative projects within the UK as well as Aboard. At the same time he has been involved with the urban art intervention group City Mine(d) in London, Brussels and Barcelona, developed research and interactive workshops on art and Synestheasia, as well has been exhibiting in The UK and abroad. He has also developed abstract animation videos and design for the musical group The Beautiful taste and works as teacher of art theory and practice.
