Tulip Series – Coming from an arts and crafts background, one of which was quilting, I am always looking for ways to introduce design into this series of work. The work has led me on an incredible journey and learning curve. From the canals of Amsterdam to the Ottoman Empire and of course to Turkey where the Tulip is the national flower. I take my reference from the repeat patterns of quilting and the tile designs of the Ottoman Empire, the Netherlands between 1630 and 1640 – and of course, the designs of William Morris - I have always been facinated by the tulip, so vibrant yet so fragile; I relate this to the human psyche which maintains the reference to my fine art practice.

I started doing 'arty' things as a child in Manchester. I would stick paper flowers on my parents wine glasses and draw faces in my school books. Unfortunately, life led me in directions other than subsequent art education. However, while living in America, I began quilting and rug-making.
