My pictures are a documentation made while constructing film works as installations. They are also pieces in themselves.
They are mostly abstract, of brightly coloured objects using lighting. I usually paint the environment I am working on so you can sometimes see the brush strokes in the images. I am interested in making work that references and looks like painting so the way I make my work is very much the way I would make a painting, but it also has a strong sculptural element.
For my photographs I am particularly interested in abstraction. Mostly, I don’t like the viewer to be able to immediately tell what the works are of. I use a medium format camera; I then scan the slides at high resolution and print digitally. I also use a digital camera and use which ever image works the best. They are printed on Archive paper and then laminated onto aluminium.
Before this I was making installation work which filled the whole space of the gallery, using neon sculptures and metal which was welded to shape and then painted. I also worked with light boxes and abstract paintings using gloss paint. I studied painting before doing my MA, and in the last three years I have moved from painting in to film and photography, but still very much referencing painting with in this practice.

My approach to making the work is akin to that of painting; every element is carefully controlled, considered, reassessed and changed...
