Such a ridiculous form above delicate ankles- this cow with her inescapable weight, poise, and femininity. She is caught mid-gesture, as if retorting to a remark and swinging into action, her wonderful pink sack swinging along with her, only inches above the ground. I created this painting as a celebration, a dowry for empowerment and laughter, as I had at one stage intended to entitle it ‘Buttercup’ (the most commonplace name for a cow), and had then discovered that these flowers are quite poisonous to cattle.

The compelling energy of my work is a plundering of documentation, a revisiting of people or places which are half-remembered. I am fascinated by that which can be captured by an image, and that which lies on the periphery of vision, perhaps caught in a brushstroke but never entirely contained.
