Roger Whitaker was one of the first artists to see the benefits offered by the Art-Switch business model and so was an early contributor to the library. In the time that he has been with us many of his pieces have been loaned and several have sold, most at much higher prices than initially asked for. One ceramic piece “Outside” realised seven times the initial asking price in a combination of loan fees and the final sale!
Roger has enjoyed the benefits of a system where price is determined by demand. He’s not had to worry too much about the complicated task of putting a price on his work, with the inherent problems of under or overpricing. Meanwhile, many people have been able to enjoy his work in their own homes or offices, and the eventual buyer was happy with a fair price that reflects the popularity.
“I enjoy the fact that I only have to submit work and all the publicising and sales are taken care of. There’s a constant stream of money coming in and work is always on show meaning that if I’m having a period when art might be on the back burner, my work continues to be promoted. In terms of pricing, Art-Switch allows the price to be realised by the market and so you can get prices higher than that which you would normally put on it, with the fail safe of the reserve price. I also like looking at the Art-Switch site to get instant feedback on what’s popular and what’s not.”
