Latest news from the artists featured in the library
The artists in our library are some of the most exciting, challenging, inspired and though-provoking contemporary artists working in the UK today. Their work is in high demand, not only in our library, but in galleries all over the world. Here is a snippet of what our artists are up to at the moment:
Max Barnes: After winning the UK leg of Le Prix de la Sculpture Noilly Prat held at the London Art Fair, Max was taken off to Paris to present his work in the running for the Worldwide Final of the competition. His proposal was well received and came second overall in the competition. Check his work in the library that is available to borrow by visiting the See The Art page and filter the search by his name, or by clicking his name above.
Julia Hamilton: Take a look at Julia's print The Wedding Dress. It was featured in the Originals '08 Print Exhibition at The Mall Galleries in which it won the award for most outstanding piece of work, an award which is chosen by Sir Peter Blake. The work is available for you to borrow in the library, take a look and see what you think.
Margaret Atkinson: Have a peek in the Library at Margaret Atkinson's paintings, if you're interested in seeing them in person then there's an exhibition of her work being held at Brixton Tate Library. It's on for the whole of April, so you've still got a bit of time to check it out.
Tinsel Edwards: After holding an exhibition in March on Leonard Street in London, Tinsel has another exhibition in the pipeline. It's being held on 2/5/08 at LaViande Gallery. Tinsel will feature as part of a group exhibition, so if you're interested in seeing some of Tinsels playful critiques on the current Art world, be sure to pop along to the exhibition.

Our MORE LIKE THIS feature makes it easy!
Everyone hopes their purchased artwork may turn out to be a ‘good investment’.
‘Good investment?' That means sellable for a higher price in future, easily (i.e wanted by many people).
Although that may sobe stating the obvious, spotting such contemporary artworks often involves understanding an artwork on various levels including it’s point of meaning, or emotional message and the degree to which these appeal to others. These can be obviously powerful or deliberately subtle, cleverly hidden and cryptic.
Unfortunately, many art websites dismiss the public by artificially categorising artworks according to superficial differences such as subject of scene, colour or medium etc. This way of categorising actually impedes people’s opportunity to understanding meanings behind a work and assess its appeal at those more meaningful levels, which is so important when considering it as an investment. The mental or emotional connections people make aren’t just restricted to colour or subject matter.
STOP PRESS! Art-Switch offers a new feature called ‘MORE LIKE THIS’. It opens up choices to help home in on suitable artwork that could be a good investment. Just click an image on ‘SEE THE ART’ page and the brown MORE LIKE THIS button will be beside it. Clicking ‘MORE LIKE THIS’ will show you the top ten artworks that most people considered similar, in some way, to the artwork you were just viewing. Different people think, feel and see in unique ways finding connections on any dimension. So if you’re not seeing a connection when so many others are, you’re probably missing something – Look again!
24/06/2007: New deal for artists

Art-Switch deal best in the world
Art-Switch first forged new territory by letting artists choose their own percentage terms.
Now, after 3 years, Art-Switch has even topped that!
100% of lending fees go to the artist!! 75% from sale of artwork goes to the artist! And a 50% royalty on commissions from re-sales goes to the artist!!
So now Art-Switch not only provides massive audiences for artwork but also bigger and regular incomes for artists.
Artists can enjoy perpetual incomes and smart artists are realising it can be better to delay the sale.
Isn’t it time you joined?
